After KGV passed in 1936, Edward VIII was monarch for less than a year before abdicating, leaving the throne to King George VI. While the proofs were made, the mints hadn't quite managed to manufacture any coins during KEVIII's reign, as such no KEVIII coins were minted. From 1938 the mints were ready with the dies for the new monarch, KGVI, and minting commenced. KGVI reigned until 1952.
The 'Kangaroo' reverse was introduced to the Australian penny in 1938.
The 1946 penny is considered scarce, while harder dates include 1940 K.G and 1941 K.G.
